Pulp Studio was honored to be a part of the iconic “Century Project,” the historic renovation of Seattle’s Space Needle. The project utilized ten different types of glass, with over 176 tons used throughout the renovation. Pulp Studio was selected to fabricate the glass for several key architectural elements, including the restaurant level façade, the observation deck façade and the interior feature stair handrails that connect the observation and restaurant levels.
To help manage thermal performance on the upper levels, Pulp Studio provided 8- by 7-foot, double-laminated insulating glass units (IGUs) with a neutral, triple silver, low-e coating for solar control and anti-reflective coatings to maximize the panoramic views. The interior feature stairs connect the observation level to the restaurant, previously only accessible by elevator. The design incorporates ½-inch chemically strengthened non-conforming radius bent glass laminated, which helps maintain the unique curvature of the stair while delivering optical clarity typically found only in annealed glass.
